Thematic Residencies
Banff Centre for the Arts
Deadline: Varies.
The Banff Centre for the Arts offers artists a variety of thematic residencies. In 2001, 'Slo-Mo' was a residency organized around the notion of time, while 'New Works' provided artists the luxury of time and space to create new works for exhibition, commission, catalogue, or publication. Upcoming residencies include 'Wildlife,' an examination of animals, monsters and portraiture (April-June 2002), 'Up Front & Personal,' (April-May, 2002), and 'Public/Private,' an investigation into the place where these two concepts meet (October-December 2002). Artists spend most of their time on independent research and production, but there are also presentations, group discussion and other exchanges among fellow artists. Applications are available on the Banff Centre's web site at www.banffcentre.ca/mva
