Cultural Initiatives Program
Canadian Heritage

In its current format, this is funding for festivals and special arts events that present works of professional artists from at least three Canadian provinces or territories (two for events assisting official language minority communities), have 50 per cent Canadian content or more, and span at least three consecutive days and no more than four weeks. Financial support equals up to 15% of total costs or $200,000 – whichever is less. Only Canadian non-profit professional arts organizations are eligible. This program is currently being overhauled, however, to better aid the development of individual artists. With the federal government’s recent channeling of an additional $100 million into Canadian Heritage, watch for even more new funding programs for Nunavut artists later in 2001.
